Certainty, the 3 days spent at the Weekends Market has been a pleasant and memorable experiences though grasped with mixed feelings; exciting, high / low spirit, happy, disappointed, worry, enthusiasm, anticipation, satisfaction etc etc.
I have actually booked a space at the Weekends Market as early as two months ago. This is my first time taking up a booth and I have picked up the courage to sell my own craft creations. At the first instinct upon obtaining a booth, I have already decided that I will be mainly selling handmade clay stuff like fridge magnets and figurines. The reason to feel that there are a market on this handicraft stuff is that I have observed crowds attracted to my sister-in-law similar kisok he had set up not long ago for five days at the National Library compound and have received an overwhelmed turnout and response. On top of it, to play safe, I will be also adding some craft related products like craft pattern books, DIY Craft Packs etc. to enhance my sales.
RIght to the point of time, I am filled with entrepreneurial and enthusiasm to start a craft biz day and even anticipating what would happen if my craft stuff is sold out even on the first day before I could in time to stock up for the 2nd and 3rd day. You know, handmade products need time to make. I begins to dream big that my wish of turning my hobby into a craft biz is going to realistic. What a wonderful feeling! And I can't wait for the BIG DAY to come.
Day 1
Eventually, the long waiting BIG DAY has finally arrived. I frantically transport my stuff to the desired destination and began to set up my booth filled with enthusiasm. Have a look at my booth! I discovered that I have been allocated not a so bad location where it is a front store inline with the traffic flow.
For sure, my booth display is still far away from other seasoned vendors. I wish I have prepared well enough to start the day because I began to feel some doubts about my biz day when the time swiftly passed-by. Down into the half day, my high spirit gradually is reducing; from a bit bored, little sleepy to a little disappointed towards evening time. I began to realise that I'm marketing the wrong products at the wrong place! I must admit that they are not a bad traffic flows there, however, too bad for me, majority (including tourists) do not appreciate handicraft but instead crowded around bigger booths that are selling fashion jewellery, necklance, trendy clothing as well as bag.
As a result, my sales don't look promising. Nevertheless, I still managed to break zero record by selling 3 craft patterns books and 2 clay figurines. I am pleased that these two proud products have found a owner:-
I would like to take this opportunity and sincerely thank those who has patronising my booth. U have somehow brighten my first day of selling and I cross my fingers to wish for a better turnout on the 2nd and 3rd day.
